Turks and Caicos Music and Poetry Festival
The Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association (TCHTA)
has committed over $200,000 in room night sponsorship towards the Tourist
Board’s special BET produced “Turks and Caicos Music and Poetry Festival” in
order to attract music, poetry and festival audiences to the beautiful by
nature island chain.
Gary Greenwood, President of the TCHTA comments “This
festival will bring attention to the Turks and Caicos Islands and will
attract live music, jazz and poetry fans to the islands during the
traditionally less busy season. Hotel guests will be able to enjoy premier
quality performances and concerts featuring top TV and music stars in unique
and awe-inspiring settings. The hotels involved in this sponsorship are
delighted to be playing such a key role in these new events and supporting
this Tourist Board and Government initiative.”
The 5 day festival runs from September 1-5th, 2004 and
is the first of its kind in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The festivities
will bring well-known music and performing artistes including Chaka Khan,
Maxi Priest, Boyz II Men, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Kim Fields, and Jeffrey
Osbourne together in a series of live music and poetry events that will take
place at popular beauty spots across the island of Providenciales from
September 1st to September 5th.
Association Director Caesar Campbell adds “This is an
exciting opportunity for us – and as well as attracting a broad base
audience of music and poetry lovers, we hope the event will raise awareness
of our destination in the African American communities in the US in
particular. The event is being advertised through BET and its affiliates BET
Jazz and VH1 and some exclusive recordings will be made at the events for
future broadcasts. All of this exposure provides a fantastic promotional
opportunity for the Turks and Caicos Islands to reach a wider audience”
The Turks and Caicos Islands first ever Music and
Poetry Festival will take place from September 1st to September 5th, 2004.
