What is it that makes Mothers so Special?
Americans Are Willing To Travel Farther and Spend More on Mother's Day Vs.
Father's Day
A new survey conducted by American Airlines and Omni Hotels
found that nearly half of respondents - 48 percent - are willing to splurge on a
gift for Mom versus 38 percent on a gift for Dad. But dear old Dad can take
some comfort: 44 percent of respondents plan to treat both parents equally -
with a greeting card and a telephone call.
The survey, which questioned more than 1,035 men and women
between the ages of 18-50, also revealed that most people are willing to travel
farther on Mother’s Day. Overall, more than one of out five respondents will
travel at least 100 miles to spend time on both holidays. The distance they
plan to travel this year:

Not only are people willing to go the extra mile for Mom,
but in many cases, they plan to treat her to something beyond a card and a phone
call. In fact, respondents were asked if they were headed to a spa this
Mother’s Day, what type of spa they would prefer. More than half - 56 percent -
liked the idea of a pampering spa, while 30 percent want a spa focused on
wellness and healthy living. Sixteen percent of respondents want a spa with
plenty of activities like golf and tennis.
American Airlines is making it a little easier to spend
time with Mom on her special day. A Mother’s Day fare sale, available now
through May 6 for booking on AA’s Web site (AA.com), gives travelers the
opportunity to fly home rather than drive. The sale offers great rates for
travel to destinations in the United States, Canada and to selected destinations
in the Caribbean.
“The great low Mother’s Day fares offer a nice alternative
to driving,” said Roger Frizzell, American’s Vice President-Corporate
Communications and Advertising. “With 27 percent of people planning to travel
more than 100 miles to see Mom, according to the survey, we’re offering them a
little extra incentive to get there quickly on one of our 3,800 daily flights.”
Frizzell noted that, just Wednesday, American made it easy
and affordable to go see Mom on Mother’s Day. The airline announced special
fares that allow travelers to book flights for as little as $74* Round Trip in
the continental U.S. and Canada, as well as to select Caribbean destinations.
Details of the special fares are available on AA.com.
With 40 hotels and resorts in North America, Omni Hotels
are a great place to take Mom on her big day. For example, the Omni Mandalay at
Las Colinas (Irving, Texas) is offering a special Mother’s Day brunch at its
signature restaurant, Trevi’s. Moms treated to brunch there will receive a
coupon for 20 percent off a Rendezvous for Two getaway at the hotel. The
special weekend package includes a guest room, one bottle of champagne delivered
to the room, a pre-arrival concierge call to assist with any special
arrangements, and late check-out until 5 p.m. The package is subject to some
conditions and availability.
“At Omni Hotels, we love to pamper Moms any time of year
with our impeccable customer service, overall quality experience, and supreme
comfort. More and more people are treating their Moms to our Spa Relaxation
Package offered at the Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa, along with a
plethora of other spa options available at the Omni Interlocken Resort and the
Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate. For those who want to whisk Mom away to
the pristine beaches of the Caribbean, we offer spa packages at the Omni Cancun
Hotel & Villas,” said Christine Connelly, Omni’s director of corporate
communications.
