Hot Summer Tips in Telluride For June 2005 Edited by Madelyn Miller, The TravelLady June is a busy month for Telluride and Mountain Village as the communities play host to numerous events and festivals including the Wild West Fest (June 9-12), Telluride Bluegrass Festival (June 16-19), Wine Festival (June 23-26) and several other events.
21st Annual Balloon Rally: June 3-5 Main street "lights up" with the Balloon Rally, which turns twenty-one this year. Hot air balloons from all over the Southwest settle on Colorado Avenue at dusk for the traditional balloon glow, while dawn marks the time when the giant crafts graciously hover over Telluride's valley.
Wild West Fest: June 9-12 The Wild West Fest highlights and celebrates Western arts, culture and customs. Each year the Wild West Fest, through the Mentorship Program, rewards inner-city and disadvantaged youth from across the country by bringing them to Telluride for a week of educational activities. In addition to workshops Wild West Fest features live performances in music, dance, theater, horseback rides, cookouts, hikes, historic mine tours and participation in Ranch Rodeo events.
Telluride Mountain Challenge: June 11 A fun and challenging 13K running/walking race throughout the Mountain Village. The race begins in the Village Core and takes participants to the outer limits of the Village and back again. A kids 1K fun run will immediately follow the 13K race. The race starts at the Telluride Conference Center in Mountain Village at 9:00 a.m.
Telluride Bluegrass Festival: June 16-19 Thirty years in the running, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival has remained a favorite among locals and the visitors who make it back year after year. Headlining the festival this year are acts such as Allison Krauss and Union Station, Earl Scruggs and friends, Jewel, Leo Kottke, Emmy Lou Harris, Sam Bush Band, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones and more.
Telluride Wine Festival: June 23-26 The annual Wine Festival celebrates another weekend of splendid sipping and spitting in Telluride. The festival offers food and wine enthusiasts an unforgettable four days, with a rare opportunity to meet winemakers, celebrity chefs, experts and authors. The sampling of rare and fine wines from all over the world will take place during tastings, seminars and luncheons offered throughout the weekend. The cooking seminars, small and intimate, encourage participation by all festival attendees. In addition, many of Telluride's finest restaurants join in the celebration by offering additional menu items and wine pairings designed to further educate and enhance the wine tasting experience.
