Blue Ridge Mountains Resort Celebrates 20th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic

As the historic High Hampton Inn  in the Blue Ridge Mountains celebrates its 84th season in 2006, it will mark a milestone: the Inn's 20th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic will take place on Friday, July 7, 2006, bringing Teddy Bears and their proud owners of all ages together for a daylong fete.

Hosted by the Inn's proprietors, Will and Becky McKee, and the Inn's life-size and very lively resident "Hampton Bear," the picnic finds Teddy Bear aficionados showing off their fuzzy friends and honoring the best of the bunch. Events throughout the day include a Treasure Bear Hunt; a Bear Story Hour; a festive Teddy Bear Picnic supper; an awards ceremony with brass ensemble; a parade of Teddy Bears; and Captain Rainbow's out-of-this-world Imagination Show.

Bears and their owners vie for such coveted awards as the Best Dressed Bear; Beary Oldest Bear; Most Appealing Wee Bear; Most Interesting Big Bear; Most Huggable Bear; Most Awesome Bear; and Hampton Bear Champion.

Past champion Teddy Bears have been invited to the 20th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic for a Teddy Bear Reunion. Photos of these Champion Bears hang on the Inn's Teddy Bear Wall of Fame.

"High Hampton Inn is committed to providing wholesome, old-fashioned family vacations and entertainment that celebrate creativity," stated owner Will McKee.

Event participants must be registered guests of the resort on the Full American Plan. Children must also be enrolled in the resort's Children's Program. For information and reservations, contact 1-800-334-2551 or reservations@highhamptoninn.com.

High Hampton Inn, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Cashiers, NC, has been a secluded vacation mecca for generations of families, golfers, honeymooners, tennis and bridge players, outdoor enthusiasts, birding and gardening aficionados, and historians since 1922. Its natural setting, and its rustic inn and cottages minus televisions and telephones, are prized as an escape from fast-paced modern life to simpler pleasures. Once the summer home of Confederate General, S.C. Governor and U.S. Senator Wade Hampton, the family-owned High Hampton is still the favored retreat chosen by many seasoned world travelers for relaxing in the mountain climate, reveling in nature and bonding with loved ones. People of all ages play croquet on the lawn, paddle around the lake, attend artists' workshops, enjoy sumptuous home cooking, and play table games by the lodge fireplace. Listed in 100 Best Family Resorts in North America and the National Register of Historic Places, High Hampton Inn is open from late April to mid-November annually; the Inn marks its 84th season in 2006.
