Happy Mother’s Day, Mom

By Sheree Bykofsky

For Mother’s Day, think a soothing and stimulating gift for Mom, something that will take her mind off everything that’s stressing her. Think Thai massage! Thai massage is available in only a few places in New York City. One place that you wouldn't think of is The Sports Club/LA, an exclusive upscale sports club open only to members. But anyone can make an appointment and experience – or give as a gift – the pleasure of a massage.

At the 61st Street location, Michael performs the most exceptional Thai massages. For those of you who haven’t had one, a Thai massage is like a cross between Shiatsu, stretching, acupressure, and meditation. This medical healing therapy was developed in the north of Thailand, and is more relaxing than the technique developed in the southern part of the country. Southern Thai massage is more “stop and start,” a “one way ticket,” as the massage therapist says. “Northern Thai massage is a round trip.”

Stretching, at least the kind you may have suffered in your ballet classes, brings strained images to mind, but in the loving hands of Michael, it's more relaxing than you can believe to be stretched. The gentle pulling is energizing and very enjoyable. Through this thorough dynamic experience, Michael shows you that you can stretch more than you thought you could on your own. It's massage and exercise all at once. What can be a greater gift for mom than the gift of relaxation and health?

If you’re concerned because your mother is elderly or maybe a little out of shape, fear not. Thai massage is fine for seniors if you get a very experienced, well trained therapist like Michael. He gets upset when people say it's not good for people who are older or out of shape. I am a good case in point. I was able to stretch and relax and he was accommodating to my individual needs. I left feeling very good energy flowing through my bones. I recommend it highly.
