Dance Council Presents National Tap Dance Celebration 2007

Dance
Council, Dallas Summer Musicals and Dallas Summer Musicals School of Musical
Theatre are joining forces to present a spectacular pre-show tribute of National
Tap Dance Celebration, to kick off Opening Night and two matinee performances of
Broadway’s hit show, Chicago.
Chicago, starring Lisa Rinna (of “Dancing with the Stars”
fame) and Tom Wopat opens June 5th and runs through June 17th at The Music Hall
at Fair Park in Dallas. The pre-show tribute to tap will be performed at 7 p.m.
that night and again at 1 p.m. before the 2 p.m. matinees Sat., June 9th and
Sun., June 10th.
The tap spectacular will feature talented tap dancers from
all over the Metroplex. 2006 Texas Tap Legend Persis Forster and Persis Ann
Forster are choreographing a number that is sure to get your feet tapping. Also
featured in the pre-show extravaganza is Joseph Jones, a favorite
singer/dancer/tap choreographer.
Everyone in the audience is invited to get in on the act
and do the Tap National Anthem, led by Buster Cooper, the 83-year-young legend
who is still going strong.
The Pre Show will feature dynamic and youthful performances
representing the finest tap dancers from studios including :
Dallas Summer Musicals
School of Musical Theatre;
The Ballet
Conservatory, (Lewisville); Mary Lois
School of Dance,
(Lancaster); Carmen Jones Dancers,
(Fort Worth); London
School of Dance, (Garland);
Miss Persis School of Dance, (Arlington); Dance Continuum,
(Bedford); and Legacy Tap Project, (Southlake).
Dance Council 2007 Tap Dance Scholarship Winners will
showcase their awesome rhythmic skills. Recipients are Lacy de la Garza from
Carrollton, Jordan Shevell from Plano, Penny Shumway from Roanoke and Lauren
Kravitz from Plano.
A Master Class with professionals will be held as well.
