Woman on Wine

by Amy Reiley

Bordeaux is arguably the king of wine regions, producing many mind-blowing red blends. Now, I don’t know about you, but for me, even the most mind-blowing big red doesn’t fly when the sun starts staying high in the sky, baking the backyard long into the evening hours.  However, Bordeaux also produces some of the most under-valued white wines in the world. So this month I bring you a nod to the “king” with a taste of some of his more season-suited wines.

2007 Chateau Lamothe de Haux

An interesting blend of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and  20% Muscadelle, this is a lovely little wine with a wildflower perfume on the nose and green herbs and tropical fruit on the palate.

2005 Divinus de Chateau Bonnet

Surprisingly big, bold and untamed for a Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc, Divinus offers a hard hit of orange zest and lemongrass. But, like a hot chick with a personality disorder, it mellows on the mid-palate with lovely lemon and a hint of honey. Strange? Yes. Tasty? Definitely.

2005 Chateau les Tuileries

Clean, fresh and thirst quenching, this is a great wine for a meal of spring veg and an anytime palate pleaser. An elegant, creamy mouthfeel combine with a clean finish make it an impressive choice for its $15 and under price tag.

2006 Chateau la Rose du Pin

A lively little Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc blend, this is a fresh, simple wine with floral aromas, good acid and a clean finish.

2004 Chateau de Cruzeau

An extremely big, serious wine for the price, it offers a hint of oak on the aroma as well as a touch of bitter herbs. It has enough weight to stand up to any dinner and balance and length to make it a great choice for serving to your pickiest wine friends.
