Caliente!It’s So Hot, Who Needs Clothes?
Caliente is a nude recreation community, built for and managed by nudists. During the planning for
Caliente, Chuck Foster told some friends that the resort would be the “hottest
nudist resort in the country.” One of them responded, “Ah, Caliente,” which is
Spanish for “hot”. The name resonated with Foster, now the resort’s Vice
President. Once having committed to the Hispanic name for the project, it seemed
only natural to develop the theme throughout. The result has been that all of
the architecture, street names and the names of Caliente’s features-- bars,
restaurants, night club, building names-- carry the theme forward.
Second,
Caliente is a private recreation and social club which operates on what most
people will recognize as a country club model. That is, the payment of an
annual membership fee allows unlimited use of the club’s restaurants and bars
and of the club’s sports, recreation and social facilities.
Accomodations include
condominiums, casitas, villas, single-family homes, and rooms. There are six
tennis courts, three clay, four pentanque courts, two beach volleyball courts,
horseshoes, shuffleboard, water volleyball pools, a basketball court and a 2
mile walking trail. The main building features five bars, a restaurant, dining
room, International-style spa, locker rooms, full fitness center, aerobics’ room
and offices.
