Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

By Carol Muse Evans

If you’re fortunate enough to visit Orlando during December this year, don’t miss “Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party,” whether you have young ones or you’re just “young at heart.” It might even snow.

For 12 special nights, the Magic Kingdom theme park re-opens from 7 p.m. until midnight for this special, limited admission event when everything is sparking for the holidays and most Magic Kingdom rides and attractions are open, along with special entertainment, parades, music and holiday treats. And, with only a limited number of tickets sold for each evening’s special opening, lines are shorter so you can see more and more of the Magic Kingdom in a more timely and festive way, making for special and magical holiday memories.

Highlights of this year’s special nights include the spectacular Christmas Parade; Disney character greetings, holiday cookies and hot chocolate served to all visitors; a souvenir family holiday photo (mailed to your home) and button; strolling carolers; and Wishes, the new nighttime spectacular fireworks and music show. And, yes, it snows on Main Street – made possible by Disney “magic.”

With beautiful holiday decorations and cooler temperatures, it makes for festive holiday fun, great holiday shopping and wonderful photo opportunities, as well. And though it seldom snows in Florida, with the Disney magic, it’s been known to snow on Main Street, U.S.A. for the party!

Nights for this year’s Christmas Party are November 30, December 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 19, and since only a limited number are sold for each evening, buy your advance tickets as soon as you know you can attend. Advance tickets are $35.95 plus tax and $25.95 plus tax for children ages 3-9. Tickets on the day of the event, if available, are $6 more each. Children under 3 are admitted free.

You can also enjoy a festive, family–style holiday meal with the Disney characters during the Christmas party event at the Liberty Tree Tavern in the Magic Kingdom. Reservations are needed, so call 407-WDW-DINE to make arrangements.

Of course, all the other theme parks at Walt Disney World – MGM Studios, Epcot and Disney’s Animal Kingdom – have their own special holiday celebrations, too, so be sure to check out their celebrations, as well. Epcot celebrates Holidays Around the World from November 28 to December 30, 2003, and the party features the diverse and interesting cultures of the countries featured in the World Showcase. The Candlelight Processional, an Epcot tradition, includes a retelling of the Christmas story nightly by a celebrity narrator, and features a symphony orchestra and choir.

Finish holiday shopping at the Festival of the Seasons in Downtown Disney from November 28 to December 24, 2003. Specialty stores are decorated to the hilt and offer a number of seasonal foods, entertainment, lights, Santa and more.
