Six Texas Restaurants Participate in Annual Contest To Benefit Aspiring ChefsEdited by Madelyn MillerRémy Martin Cognac and James Beard Foundation Host Sixth Annual Ultimate Diner Contest Beginning this month, Dallas, Houston and Austin area residents will have the opportunity to experience the world’s ultimate cognac paired with exquisite cuisine, while giving back to culinary education. For the next three months Pappas Brother's Steakhouse of Dallas, Qin Dynasty, Café Le Jadeite and Brennan’s of Houston and Eddie V’s Edgewater Grille of Austin will partake in the sixth annual James Beard Foundation and Louis XIII de Rémy Martin Ultimate Dinner Program. The James Beard Foundation and Louis XIII Ultimate Dinner Program is a national competition, in which, restaurants from across the United States sell specially designed prix-fixe dinners with a portion of the proceeds going to the James Beard Foundation. Each menu reflects the house chef’s creative ability to prepare meals that pair effortlessly with a glass of Louis XIII de Rémy Martin Cognac.
“The Ultimate Dinner Competition allows participating restaurants to exhibit creativity and give back to the culinary community at the same time,” Says Rémy Martin Brand Manager Nelson Hsu. There are 74 Restaurants participating in the 2003 Ultimate Dinner program ranging in location from New York to Texas to Hawaii. The restaurant that sells the most prix-fixe dinners will not only have a donation to the James Beard Foundation made in its name, but will also receive an all-expense paid trip to The James Beard Foundation Awards Ceremony and Reception, the food world’s equivalent of the Oscars. New to the Ultimate Dinner Program are the creation of the James Beard Foundation and Louis XIII de Rémy Martin Hall of Fame and the inauguration of its first member, Pappas Brothers Steak House located in Dallas, Texas. The Hall of Fame was developed for restaurants that have demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment to the culinary community and to the Ultimate Dinner program. For the past five years Papas Brothers Steak House has been the winning restaurant, out- selling all other participants. As the inaugural member of the Hall of Fame, Pappas Brothers will “pass the torch” by presenting the winning restaurant with their award. Representatives of Pappas Brothers will also assist with the Judging of additional contests taking place within the program and they will also attend The James Beard Foundation Awards Ceremony and Reception alongside this year’s winner.
