Ravi Shankar’s Festival of India II
Opens the Titas Dance and Music Season in Dallas
TITAS will open the 2005-2006 Season of
Dance & Music with Ravi Shankar’s Festival of India II at SMU’s McFarlin
Auditorium on Sunday, September 18 at 7:00 PM.
Known internationally for his sitar
playing, Ravi Shankar’s musical and cultural achievements are vast. As a
performer, composer, teacher and writer, he has done more for Indian music than
any other musician. The Festival of India is an original Shankar performance,
featuring a highly elaborate stage that promises to draw you into a vivid
performance and whisk you away on a whirlwind visit to Bombay.
Joining Ravi onstage will be his
daughter Anoushka Shankar, a highly respected sitar virtuoso in her own right.
Anoushka is carrying on the Shankar tradition of musicianship and she possesses
the same fire and dexterity as her father. Fans of all musical genres and all
ages will be fully enthralled with this opportunity to see a true musical legend
performing at the highest of his talents.
