COMPUTER ENHANCED ROMANCE

by Madelyn Miller

So you plan a romantic weekend...but how can you be sure you both share the same idea of romance? This isn't a problem if you plug into the "Romance Computer" for Couples at Hyatt Regency Maui. A haven for honeymooners, the resort is one of the most romantic resorts in the world.

The "Discoveries in Romance" program runs on the Hyatt’s "Romance Computer" in the resort’s Aloha Services Center.  The program is designed to reveal the essence of a couple’s individual personality types and then to recommend activities most likely to enhance their romantic experience while on vacation.

Here’s how it works:  The couple opens up the colorful "Discoveries" web page on the resort’s Romance Computer and types in answers to a series of questions.  The program then runs an analysis and prints out a profile on each person.  It also recommends--based on the analysis-- the activities most likely to maximize their romantic experience while on vacation.

For example:  If she's a "feeling" person and he's an "auditory" type, an evening of dancing to great music might be romantically satisfying to them as a couple.   Something which would probably NOT be their cup of tea would be scuba diving.

"Discoveries in Romance" was designed for Hyatt Regency Maui by the well-known romance and relationship psychologist, Dr. Tracy Cabot, author of  How to Make a Man Fall in Love With You,  How to Win the Woman You Want, and other highly successful books on love and relationships.

Hyatt Regency Maui has also worked with Dr. Cabot to develop "Ten Tips for Romance on the Road:  How to Keep the Flame Alive While Traveling Together".  This list is provided to each couple checking into the resort throughout the year as a part of the "Discoveries in Romance" program.  (The tips are enclosed.)

All couples--guests of Hyatt Regency Maui as well as the general public---are invited to participate in "Discoveries in Romance".   The program is accessible free of charge.  For information, call 808-661-1234 and ask for the Aloha Services Desk.

Ten Tips for Romance on the Road:

How to Keep the Flame Alive While Traveling Together

Compiled by Hyatt Regency Maui’s Aloha Services staff with the advice of Dr. Tracy Cabot, noted author and relationship psychologist

1. Plan the trip together and talk about activities you’ll enjoy as a couple. Doing some advance planning for the trip before you leave will eliminate the need (and stress) of planning while on the road.

2. Allow for spontaneity.  It’s ok to go "off the plan". This is a good time to try something you’ve never done together before and share that experience!

3. Give each other some space.  Couples often fall into the trap of thinking they have to do everything together.  Spending some time apart and allowing your partner to do something he or she enjoys is one of the best gifts you can give.

4. Pack a few light items which remind you of romance—lovely lingerie, an aromatic oil, a small scented candle, a CD of favorite music.

5. Select a destination that "feels" romantic for both people…and remember each person may have different "signals" for romance:  It may be a warm beach, a cozy fireplace, or an isolated cabin.

6. Use the luxury of extra time together to give little "presents"—a soothing foot massage after a long walk; a surprise bottle of wine; a love note left on the pillow.

7. Anticipate the stress that goes along with traveling and talk about how you will handle those potentially difficult moments together like airport delays, lost luggage, and getting lost. And remember:  don’t blame your partner!

8. One of the most common sources of strain in a relationship is money. Set a budget and talk about expenses.  Each partner should have a little "mad money" to spend as he or she pleases; but discuss big purchases.

9. Pace yourself.  Exhausting yourself during the day will leave you too tired in the evening for enjoying each other.

10. Talk to each other.  A trip together is a wonderful time to share lots of good conversations, feelings, hopes, expectations, fears.  And tell your partner how much you love and appreciate the relationship. ©
