Golf was first played here in 1400 AD and is generally recognized as
the world's oldest course. Reservations for the Old Course are allocated
a year beforehand Your handicap certificate and a letter of introduction
from your golf club is required .Interestingly, the golf courses in St.
Andrews are owned by the town of St. Andrews itself. All five courses are
run by the Links Trust, which was established in 1974 by an Act of Parliament.
The newest course, which opened this spring is Duke's course. With majestic

the Highlands, the championship Duke's Course was designed by five-time
Open winner, Peter Thomson. This typically Scottish, inland par 72, 7200
yard course is the first inland course to be constructed at St. Andrews
and adds contrast to the existing choice of courses at St. Andrews. It
also makes St. Andrews the largest golf complex in Europe.
Like other famous hotels such as Gleneagles and Turnberry, the Old Course
Hotel was originally owned by British Transport whose train services gave
them access to some of the finest properties in the country. This prestigious,
five-star Hotel, adjacent to the 17th Fairway of the Old course, has many
