KIDS CAN ENJOY LONE STAR PARK, TOO

Kids’ Club Days at Lone Star Park

Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie isn’t just for grown-ups. The four-year old racetrack, which reopens for live racing on Thursday, April 13, has plenty of activities scheduled for children throughout the popular 15-week season.

Lone Star Park will host its first free Kids’ Club Day at the track’s Family Fun Park on Sunday, April 16 at 12 p.m. Other Kids’ Club Days are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month through the end of the season – May 6, June 3, and July 1.

Activities and entertainment include pony rides, a petting zoo, barn tours, bounce houses, clowns, live entertainment and free gifts. There will be games, including “Pin the Jockey on the Horse” and “Musical Bales of Hay.” Plus, children can meet Lone Star Park’s mascot, Johnny Jockey, and get an up-close look at some of the most beautiful Thoroughbreds around.

“The Kids’ Club program provides families with an exciting experience at the horse races – a behind the scenes adventure at the racetrack filled with entertainment for the entire family,” said G.W. Hail, Lone Star Park’s Vice President of Marketing and Sales. “Attending families will receive free passes to stay for our horse races later in the afternoon.”

Lone Star Park will also stage a Pokemon Day on Easter Sunday (April 23). The first 3,000 people age 16 and under (with a paid admission) will receive one free pack of Pokemon Blue Patch unlimited trading game cards. Tucked away are a limited number of Charizard and Mewtwo cards, which are very hard to find.

On Saturday, April 8th, Lone Star Park will host a family-oriented Open House. Scheduled events include a pancake breakfast while horses go through their morning routines on the main track, hay rides and stable and grandstand tours. There will also be special equestrian demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

Essential Information:

General admission is $3, but children age three and under are admitted free.

Lone Star Park is located one-half mile north of Belt Line Road off Interstate 30 at 1000 Lone Star Parkway in Grand Prairie – 12 miles west of Dallas and 20 miles east of Fort Worth, and Lone Star Park’s Family Fun Park, a grassy area with picnic tables and a giant playground, is located adjacent to the Post Time Pavilion near the top of the homestretch.

Lone Star Park’s 73-day Thoroughbred season continues each Wednesday through Sunday until July 23. The first live race on weekdays is 7:05 p.m. Weekend action begins at 1:35 p.m. For a complete schedule, and to join the Kids’ Club, contact Amy Klockgether at (972) 237-1145. The membership is free.
