Kim Reichhelm’s
Women’s Ski Adventures
By Valerie Summers
Renowned
extreme skiing star and Crested Butte Ski Ambassador Kim Reichhelm will direct
her twelfth year of Women's Ski Adventures exclusively at Crested Butte
Mountain Resort during the 1999-2000 season. Due to the popularity of her program, Reichhelm is adding an additional
week-long clinic in December that coincides with Crested Butte's infamous Free
Lift Ticket promotion to her program schedule, for a total of five clinics
offered throughout the season.
Under
Reichhelm's direction, Women's Ski Adventures has taught thousands of women all
around the world, from the novice to the advanced and expert level skier, how
to have more fun on the slopes, boost their confidence and go home better
skiers.
Reichhelm,
a US Ski Team veteran and two-time World Extreme Skiing Champion, was one of
the first women in the industry to create a program specifically for
women. "The idea of Women's Ski
Adventures is to create the ultimate ski experience," says Reichhelm. "Through 35 years of skiing, ski
racing, coaching and travel, I have learned so many valuable lessons. It is very rewarding to pass this
information on."
Despite
growing competition from other women's ski programs, Reichhelm's Women's Ski
Adventures have built a solid, loyal and sophisticated clientele. The four-day/five-night clinics are upscale,
all-inclusive vacations for women who want an adventure without all the hassle.
"A
positive learning environment is crucial for women to experience breakthroughs
in their skiing," says Reichhelm. Women are taught in small groups, with an average instructor-to-student
ratio of five or six to one. Reichhelm
hand picks the top female instructors from the Crested Butte Ski School and
gives on- and off-snow demonstrations and talks that are motivational,
informative and non-competitive. A
private hospitality room where ski-tech needs are catered to and where the
women meet for breakfast, lunch and apres-ski video review enhance the learning
experience even more.
The
week-long program includes airport transportation, breakfasts, lunches, welcome
and awards dinners, lift tickets, daily instruction with video analysis,
apres-ski parties, product demos, a mini-fashion show, fun race and awards. Discounted lodging at the ski-in/ski-out
Crested Butte Marriott Resort and the Sheraton Crested Butte Resort (just steps
away from the lifts) is also available.
The
1999-2000 dates for Women's Ski Adventures are December 13 - 18, 1999; January
13 - 18, 2000; January 24 - 29, 2000; February 20 - 25, 2000; and March 6- 11,
2000. The package price begins at $900
per person without lodging, or $750 for season-pass holders. The package with five nights lodging begins
at $1280 per person, based on double occupancy at the Sheraton Crested Butte
Resort.
Crested
Butte Mountain Resort joins a host of Women's Ski Adventures corporate sponsors
including K2 Skis, Nils Skiwear, Marker
Bindings, Clif Bar, John Paul Mitchell Systems, Anheuser-Busch, Aloe Up, Swix
