LAS VENTANAS HARNESSES HEALING POWERS OF ANCIENT INDIGENOUS MEXICAN CURESThree New Treatments Feature the "Magic Bark" of the Tepezcohuite, the Nopal Cactus and Volcanic Clay The Spa at Las Ventanas al Paraiso has tapped into the ancient curative traditions of Mexico. Three exclusive new treatments have been introduced that immerse guests in indigenous natural cures offering unique restorative experiences. The new treatments use native plants and soils -- including the tepezcohuite tree, the nopal cactus and volcanic clay -- that have been celebrated for their healing and purifying properties and used for centuries by the country's native peoples.
The Tepezcohuite Healing Wrap features the "magic bark" of the tepezcohuite tree that is indigenous to Chiapas, Mexico. Modern research has confirmed what the ancient Mayans discovered: tepezcohuite has amazing skin healing and regenerative properties, particularly in treating sunburns and sunblisters. It's also used to treat blemishes, help prevent facial expression lines, and stimulate the generation of collagen. The treatment begins with the application of tepezcohuite extracts mixed with rose water and cream. Then guests are cocooned for penetration and healing. A soothing rose mist completes this 45-minute treatment. Cost: $90.
The Nopal Anti-Cellulite & Detox Wrap harnesses the special powers of Mexico's native Nopal cactus. A great source of vitamin C and amino acids, Nopal helps the body pull fluids back from the tissues into the bloodstream, thereby diminishing cellulite and fluid retention. To exfoliate and improve skin health a dry-brush massage is performed first followed by a generous application of Nopal gel. The body is then cocooned to allow penetration and detoxification. A cool shower regulates body temperature. A full body massage follows, using a Nopal body lotion. Completing this treatment and furthering toxin elimination, a Nopal and pineapple smoothie is served. The 80-minute treatment is $125.
The Volcanic Clay Purification Treatment uses volcanic clays applied by the Aztecs and the Mayans during their purification rituals. The application of volcanic clay is designed to exfoliate, nourish and detoxify the skin and body. As the rich-in-minerals clay infuses the skin, muscles relax and impurities are purged from the system. After the clay is showered off a generous amount of juniper/sage massage oil is applied. To complete the purifying ritual and let the effects melt their way into the body, a few minutes relaxation in the sauna is recommended. The 50-minute treatment is $80. These new treatments, inspired by indigenous Mexican cures, are the latest additions to a menu of services at Las Ventanas. Guests can choose services inspired by ancient and renowned rituals, therapies and products not only from Mexico but Native American culture, India, Bali, China, Japan, France, Germany, and Austria, as well as remedies using plants, herbs, essences, oils and mud.
