Monmouth Plantation Remembers
Ante-Bellum South

The dream of Monmouth Plantation’s first owner, General John A. Quitman, was to create an atmosphere of permanence and peace amidst a changeable world. That dream has been realized through the careful restoration of the mansion and eight other historic buildings, providing 30 rooms and suites.

Mornings begin with a complimentary Southern breakfast full of special treats and prepared by a friendly staff. There are several guest amenities, including a full breakfast, unique soaps and creams provided with soft robes; a cocktail service featuring freshly mixed mint juleps, complementary hors d'oeuvres and chocolates as well as turned-down covers that say, "We're glad you're here. Sweet dreams."

Nearly every modern comfort has been provided without detracting from the historic architectural integrity of the plantation. Many of the rooms have fireplaces and Jacuzzi baths. Guest accommodations are provided in the main house, Courtyard Building, Garden Cottages, Carriage House, Plantation Suites, Quitman Retreat and Pond Cottages -- all maintained in period style.

Evenings sparkle under candlelight and hand-cut crystal during five-course dinners. The chef plans the menu daily and often incorporates regional favorites that are prepared in the South's culinary tradition. Monmouth is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a good starting place for an adventure in Natchez - a town that combines pre-Civil War elegance with gracious hospitality.

Tour ante-bellum mansions, take carriage rides, enjoy antique shopping or eat lunch at a Natchez Under The Hill restaurant, with the Mississippi River just a few feet from your table..

From its inception, Monmouth has been a love story. Beginning as a gift to a bride, today it carries on the tradition of romance providing a setting for weddings, receptions and honeymoons.

Every season at Monmouth is laden with its own special quality and enjoyments. However, Christmas holds a very special place in the hearts of owners Ron and Lani Riches, who turn the mansion into a holiday treasure.

Monmouth was rated "one of the top ten most romantic places in the USA" by Glamour magazine and USA Today, and named one of the "Top 50 U.S. Inns & B&Bs" by Zagat. For reservations or more information please call 1-800-828-4531.
