A MUSEUM OF NEUROSIS
“Conflict and Culture” Exhibit about Sigmund Freud Opens in Three Cities
I often think the world would be a better place if most
of the Western world received therapy. Now, most of them can at least see an
exhibition devoted to the godfather of therapy, Sigmund Freud. "Conflict
and Culture" has traveled to the U.S. Library of Congress, the Jewish
Museum in New York, and the cradle of the psychoanalyst's neurosis: Vienna.
Currently on exhibit at the Los Angeles Skirball Cultural Center, the
exhibition is presented in three sub-categories: A biographical sketch of Freud
in his contemporary social and historical context; an examination of his
theories on the conscious and unconscious; and the influence and impact of
Freud's school of psychoanalysis on 20th century society.
The major exhibit includes photographs, manuscripts,
letters, first editions, rare home movies of Feud, and objects from his study
and consulting room, and many other Freudian memorabilia. Sigmund Freud
"Conflict and Culture" opened April 4th and will be at the Skirball
Cultural Center until July 25th. The Library of Congress organized the exhibit,
in association with the Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna.
