Right Up The Road
Oklahoma City
MADELYN
MILLER "the travel lady" was asked by the Dallas CBS-TV affiliate to
do a show on FAMILY VACATIONS FOR FOUR FOR UNDER $1000 from Dallas. Here is one of the possibilities:
Just
three hours up I-35, Oklahoma City is one of the country's best travel
bargains! It was recently featured in
Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel as one of the least expensive places to visit on
earth. It has one of the lowest average
daily room rates in the country (around $55). With more than 12,000 hotel
rooms, finding a place to stay is hardly a problem.
There
are more than 50 museums, attractions and activities in Oklahoma City. The Omniplex
houses 4 museums under one roof, with hands-on science, the Air Space
Museum, a planetarium, Red Earth Indian Center, International Photography Hall
of Fame, gardens, galleries and a new 70 mm IWERKS theater coming this fall.
Oklahoma
City is also home to Remington Park Race Track, one of the top zoos in
the country, the Myriad Botanical Gardens Stockyards City, Frontier City
theme park, White Water Bay, and more.
One
of the citys newest destinations is Bricktown, the downtown entertainment district.
A renovated warehouse area, it now has over a dozen restaurants, plus shops and plenty of special events.
July
2 is the grand opening of the new
pedestrian canal, a mile-long waterway with water taxis, canal-side shops and
restaurants, and verdant park areas. In
addition, A new AAA baseball park was
finished last year, and is home to the Texas Rangers farm club, the Oklahoma Red
Hawks. On June 14, AMTRAK service between Ft. Worth and Oklahoma
City will be restored. This will be the
first train service the city has had in
20 years. renovating our historic Santa Fe depot back to its 1930's-era glory.
As
you can see, there a lot of things are happening up the road.
