Countdown to 2000

by Valerie Summers

In many families, siblings are often as different as night and day. In one San Francisco hotel family, its four siblings each have their own unique personality and are part of the aptly named Personality Hotels.

Edging to the millennium, Personality Hotels onSan Franciscos Union Square is celebrating in true style with "Winter with Personality," offering guests special seasonal rates now through March 1, 2000 with winter rates priced from $99. As an added attraction, parents may shop with ease for that last minute Christmas shopping while their children have fun at "Camp Personality." Kids enjoy holiday arts and craft activities, games, sing-alongs and videos while warming up with hot chocolate and cookies. Parents are able to drop their children off at "Camp Personality" Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through December 23, 1999 while they complete their holiday shopping. Within minutes from the hotels on chic Union Square there are more than 150 unique retail shops, offering everything from antiques and apparel to toys and upscale travel accessories. Reservations for camp must be made in advance.

For every guestroom night booked from December 1999 through January, 2000, Personality Hotels on Union Square will donate a percentage of its sales to The Tenderloin Childcare Center in San Francisco. The non-profit child development center is a program of Compass Community Services, serving low come and at risk children and their families residing near downtown San Francisco.

Close to the heart of the shopping district and steeped in old-world charm, the Kensington Park Hotel is considered the one of the best addresses on Union Square. This newly-renovated hotel showcases a Spanish Gothic exterior, a lobby with hand painted Spanish-style ceilings, a splendid baby grand piano and plush alcoves for relaxing. Guests will find real rest and comfort after a full day of shopping with chic quilted bed covers, plush pillows.

An especially good value is a stay at the newly re-designed Hotel Diva which boasts a $2 million renovation . Guests enter a sophisticated lobby entrance with a "liquid-like" stacked sheeted glass window and check in at a dramatic curved black granite reception desk with onyx back light panels. Guestrooms lull visitors to sleep with comfortably-furnished appointments.

The Hotel Metropolis features a "Holistic Well Being Center," a "Cardio Center" and whimsically furnished children's suite. Each floor of the hotel features an earth, wind, fire or water theme and color scheme. The sleek avantefurnishings put guests right into the next century.

Hotel Union Square echoes San Francisco's true modern day identity through its distinct architecture. The furnishings are up to date with a tone that suggests San Francisco redefined in a contemporary manner.

Guests enjoy amenities at all hotels that include complimentary freshly-brewed coffee with a delicious continental breakfast, twice daily maid service, 24-hour fitness centers, remote-control color television, pay-per-view top rated movies, honor bars and personal care amenities. Take your pick of any of the members of the Personality family and youll be in for a treat at these very personal boutique hotels.
