See The Grand Canyon in a Different Light

Grand Canyon National Park Lodges Winter Packages

Those wishing to see the Grand Canyon in a new light may want to consider taking advantage of winter packages and rates offered by Grand Canyon National Park Lodges. The packages are available November 7, 1999 to March 16, 2000, excluding the holiday periods of Thanksgiving (November 24-27, 1999) and Christmas/New Year’s (December 24, 1999 January 2, 2000).

"With each changing of the seasons visitors can enjoy a new Grand Canyon experience," said Bill Johnston, general manager of Amfac Parks & Resorts’ Grand Canyon National Park Lodges. "During the winter, the temperature cools down and so does the pace of our guests. And what most photographers will also tell you is that the ambient light changes and creates a distinct look very different from what occurs in other seasons."

This year’s packages include - The Winter Value Rate. For $63 per night plus tax guests receive a room at Maswik or Yavapai Lodge. The rate is good for single or double occupancy. The cost for each additional person in the room is $9. Children 16 and under stay at no extra charge.

  • The Grand Value Package is available at Maswik and Yavapai Lodges. The cost for this two-night package is $99 plus tax for single or double occupancy. Additional persons in the room cost $9 each with the exception of children 16 and under. Guests who stay two nights also receive a dessert with each dinner entree at the El Tovar Dining Room or Arizona Steakhouse. In addition, guests receive discounts in all gift shops operated by Grand National Park Lodges except for the Hopi House. The discounts range from 10 percent on purchases of $50-99.99 to 20 percent on purchases of $100 or more.
  • The El Tovar Romance Package includes one night in a standard queen room at the elegant and historic El Tovar, a bottle of champagne and fruit basket in the room and dinner for two with a bottle of El Tovar wine in the hotel’s dining room. The package cost is $249 plus tax.

Lodges offering the packages are located at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park and include - El Tovar Hotel, long considered the crown jewel of Grand Canyon hotels. El Tovar features 78 rooms and was fashioned after European hunting lodges. It was constructed in 1905 by the Santa Fe Railroad using native stone and Oregon pine. El Tovar recently underwent a $1 million renovation. It offers a gift shop, restaurant, lounge and sightseeing tours.  www.grandcanyonlodges.com

Maswik North rooms have also been renovated recently.
  • Yavapai Lodge, the largest lodge in Grand Canyon National Park. Nestled amid a pion and juniper forest near the Canyon, Yavapai features 358 rooms, a gift shop, cafeteria and sightseeing tours.
