HOW TO EDIT A TIDBIT OR PRESS RELEASE

HOW TO EDIT A PRESS RELEASE

The overall goal is to make it sound like a story written by a journalist, NOT AN AD OR ADVERTORIAL That means eliminate all the stuff about their $5 million expansion, promotion of key executives, etc.

Tone down any overly superlative words..."best, leading, etc."

Don't put a lot of focus on rates, unless that is the main message for a special hotel package

If you can think of a more clever headline, that is great

1. Eliminate the dateline ......i.e. PARIS, FRANCE and any date

2 eliminate ad stuff like info on their other properties in chain

3. Check and correct any spelling or grammatical errors--you would be surprised how many we get

4. Try to include an 800 number or website for further info

5. Omit any reference to “call your travel agent”

6. End with "edited by [YOUR NAME]”

7. Add links for travellady.com sections, such as destinations and special interests

8. Contact press person by email and ask them to send  jpg's to you. Decide where they should go in story. Indicate placement, then send story on to Madelyn.  After Madelyn issues a number, send jpg on to pictures@travellady.com

9. Be sure to add contact information for hotel or destination such as 800 number and website

10. E-mail your version to Madelyn as a .doc file

11. After Madelyn issues a number, send JPEG visuals on to pictures@travellady.com
