TRIP
POLICY
YOU
MUST HAVE WRITTEN FIVE STORIES THAT HAVE BEEN APPROVED
BEFORE YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR A LETTER OF ASSIGNMENT. Each
writer can have two letters of assignment outstanding. PLEASE
TRY TO GET THE STORY IN WITHIN 6 WEEKS. Trips will be given to the first writer to respond.
Others will be wait-listed in order of response. WHY
WE CAN’T GIVE YOU THE INFO ABOUT THE TRIP: Unless
you are the writer assigned, we can’t give out the contact info until the
writer has returned. Why? 1.
I don’t
want our contributors competing with each other for a host’s attention. One
time, Dave Shultz was assigned a Caribbean trip. I gave another contributor the contact info, and she planned
to write for another of her outlets. The
contact noticed that she also wrote for TravelLady, and decided that she would
get “more bang for her buck” if she invited the woman instead of Dave. 2.
I used to
send the contact info out to everyone. One
time, SIX writers contacted the host, all claiming to have letters of assignment
from TravelLady.com. (There were
only six places on the trip; naturally, the hosts wanted people from different
publications.) We all looked stupid
and unprofessional. What
publication would send six people to cover the same story?
And only ONE of them had asked me for a letter. |
